Animated GIF Work Diary

For this shoot, I took several images of my subject swinging. To show my final product, I made a GIF, as shown below.

The equipment I used should have been a tripod however as I done this shoot at home I did have access to a tripod so I used things around me to try and keep my camera as still as possible.

My favourite GIF from this shoot:
This is my favourite GIF from this shoot because I believe it meeds the objectives of the technique sequencing. I also really like how my subject is a silhouette, this shows how my research of my image bank has helped my final product because I liked the image of a silhouette subject- so I decided to make a similar effect. I all like how the simplicity of my subject swinging looks really intriguing as a GIF. On my image bank I also used an image of a child swinging- thus giving me this idea. The Shutter Speed I used for this image was 1/320 and the F.stop used was 4.0. The reason for me using such a fast shutter speed was because I needed to capture as much movement as I could to get the best out come. Before choosing this last swing and then her jumping off, I got several images of her swinging back and forth, although for the sequencing aspect,I really preferred showing her starting and ending (by jumping off).

My Least favourite GIF from this shoot:
One of the main reasons I do not like this GIF is because you can clearly see that I did not use a tripod for it- unlike the one above as that one must have been more sturdy on what I placed it on. Another reason for this being my least favourite image is because of the camera settings I used... The Shutter Speed was 1/20- which as you can see from my GIF above, is much slower. The reason the shutter speed being too slow has made this my least favourite image is because it meant I didn't get as many images of my subject sliding down the slide as I hoped for; for example I missed her starting on the floor and there isn't that many on her going down the slide.

Progression:
If I were to reshoot the sequencing technique, one of the main things I would change is the use of a tripod. With out it, it can affect the final product, as it has done in the GIF I used for my Least Favourite GIF. Another way I would improve this shoot would be to make sure my shutter speed is the fastest it can be, because otherwise, I may miss certain part of the movement.

To make a GIF I...
1. Uploaded all the images up on Photoshop
2.Clicked the "Window"tab at the top of the screen
3. Clicked "Timeline"
4. Click "create a video timeline"
5. Change the size to each photo to slow it down or speed it up- making sure they are equal.
6. Click file, save for web
6. Make the size smaller and make the loop go on "Forever"

Using this technique?
When I come to shooting my independent project, I think a GIF could be a really useful technique in showing the youth subculture. A way in which I hope to use a GIF is from showing the smoking side of the collective identity of youth.
