The black and white effect is really effective within this image. The main part of this image is the "candid" type approach. It can hold a story- a connotation which the audience is free to make up. The subjects hood looks really soft, as if made up of snow. The punctum of this image is the eyes, the photographer could have chosen to take this image with a "fresh-face"- with no make-up on at all, however, with the dark mascara, it draws the audience into that part of the image first then to see a soft and feminine image.
This image is a playful approach of this technique which is really intriguing. If the photographer had chosen to take this image without the glasses, it may not have had the same effect. This is because the punctum of thick framed glasses, it almost frames the image, it gives the audience an eye-draw, then to see a playful looking child. Additionally without the glasses, the child may have become lost with the lighting- other than her hair and top, the subject wouldn't be as dominant as she is shown here.
This image is different to the ones above- it's in colour. Even though I really like the black and white vibe from the ones shown on this post, I also really like this image because you can clearly see the different colouring of her eye, without colour, it wouldn't have the same effect because, with colour the audience have something to focus on. This is successful in showing the technique of high key lighting because it has a really flattering effect on subjects.
This is another image with is in colour but also really intriguing to look at, much like the playful one of the child, the photographer has used the punctum of the subject having glasses to give more depth into this image. As the glasses are darker, it shapes the image. Without the dark glasses, the subject again may become "washed-out", due to it being high key lighting. Yet with the glasses, we are unaware of where her eyes are.
This image again, in black and white, gives it a really flattering effect. Much like the first image of this post, the photographer has used the darkness of mascara to make the eyelashes the punctum, without the subject having the eye-liner are mascara, the eyes wouldn't have as much definition as they do here, this would mean that the viewer may not have one certain part of the image to look at. Additionally, with her holding a thin looking hood, it furthers to flattering/ elegant effect to this image because it suggests shes fragile- perhaps because shes cold, or because she doesn't want the sun on her.
Finally, make-up again is key in this image in giving the high key technique a definition. This is because the dark colour in the eyebrows and eyes, contrast the softness of the rest of this subjects skin. Furthermore, this image is really intriguing to look at because of the concentration the subject has on the subject, it's almost as if we feel hypnotized to look into her eyes.
