Shoot Eight- Graffiti Colour- Work Diary

For this shoot, I went to Brick Lane with a few of my friends to take pictures of both my friends as my subjects but also the graffiti. Even though most of my shoots are on documentary photography- capturing subjects when they don't really know, I used this shoot as an experimentation on whether it would work in this style.

My favourite image from this shoot:
This shot was taken on the walk into Brick lane from the train station as my friends began walking off, I saw this bit of graffiti labelling "NOT ART" which I found really interesting because the meaning behind it looks intriguing. Yet later on in the day I saw the same writing, although when researching I was unable to find if it meant for anything, yet I still really like it. Graffiti is seen as vandalism by the older generation but art to those with creative minds/ those who done it, so for them to write that it isn't art is a really interesting meaning. Another factor I like in this photo is that the audience are unsure on who the subjects are, are they just passers by or are they the ones who done this graffiti? The colouring of this image is another factor why I like it because the graffiti is clear but the colouring is muted, making it not stand out as much as some graffiti could.

My least favourite image from this shoot:
When you come out of the train station and cross the road, you can see a street with a lot of graffiti on the side- outside a shop, which I really liked the look of, however, when I first saw it, I went to take a photo of it from a far yet because I was across the road, cars were driving past which created this final image which I do not think is very successful because it takes away the attention from the graffiti and puts the attention onto the car- because it takes up the majority of the frame- 2/3 of the frame is the car of the audience are more likely to look at the car then the graffiti afterwards rather than the other way round.

Overall:
Even though I am happy with certain images in this shoot with the colouring of the graffiti, I believe this shoot has became too staged and doesn't comply very well with my given theme of the stereotypes of youth. Therefore I do not think I will re shoot this one although some of the images are useful into displaying my experimentation of different youths.
