Beauty Gel lighting shoot- Image Bank

I show this image because it shows how photographers can use this effect of "beauty gel lighting" to also capture masculine sides, this can also be helped by the use of low key lighting. The reason I chose this image to display this technique is because I personally find it fitting with my independent project- showing the smoking side of the youth subculture. The use of the gel lighting helps show the smoke dispute across the frame. It can also be symbolic, because on the blue side- symbolising good, there is little smoke, however, on the red side- symbolising bad, there is lots of smoke, this could suggest the photographers aim for this image is to show the negatives of smoking.

This image, is much more similar to one you may find on an advertisement- for example for perfume because unlike the high key lighting technique, this has a much more "intimate" effect to it- mostly used in perfume advertisements.  In this image, we can see how the photographer would have used the colours of red and blue, with the red much more dominant- to form that intimate vibe. Furthermore, this image shows how the photographer could have used smoke to fill around it- this is because there are parts of this image which show smoke- such as half way on the left.

Much like the image above, this image such how this technique can be used for advertising. With the photographer using blue and orange/yellow coloured gels, it forms a chrome effect on the subject. This is continued through the use of jewelry- thus suggesting the photographers intentions for this image is to sell/ advertise.

This image is really intriguing and displays the use of a diffuse lens. This is because, the colour green, the more dominant colour in the image, fills and spreads across the bottom of this image. Furthermore, the dominance of the colours suggests the positioning of the back lights would have been different to the ones which I used, this is because the colour red in only a bit clear- within the subjects fringe, yet the green is throughout the photo, this could suggest and the green gel light in closer to her and much more to her side, whereas the red light may be further away and at an angle behind her.

Similarly to the first image, this photo fits quite nicely with my plans to take photos of people smoking. The use of the gels here have played a very important part in making the smoke dominant to the viewer. This is because, the subject appears quite blue/ purple, whereas the smoke and certain part of the subject, is pink, this may suggest this photographer positioned the back lights with the pink gel higher up, and the blue light pretty much in front of the subject.

This image has a much more softer approach of the technique, this shows how when photographing women, photographers tend to go for a lighter effect- like in this image it shows the feminine side of her- including her red lip and makeup. Whereas when taking photos of men, they may choose to add low key lighting to the effect, highlight the more "chiseled" features. In the image, the photographer would have used a white background- so the colours would ombre behind the subject, the suggests that this photographers set out was with the blue gel light up high, and the red/pink lower down.
